Clara Sumpf Yiddish Lecture Series

David Fishman, Professor of Jewish History, The Jewish Theological Seminary

Two Yiddish poets from Vilna  risked their lives to rescue Jewish and other cultural treasures from destruction - first by stealing them from the Nazi looters of the Einsatzstab Reichsleiter Rosenberg, and later, after the War, by smuggling them out of the Soviet Union and Communist dominated Poland. How did they do it, and why?

This lecture is in English. There is another lecture in Yiddish at 12:00pm on Monday, April 11, 2016
