In the fifty years since the passage of Nostra Aetate,  the Vatican II statement on inter religious relations, the Church's perception of its relationship with Judaism and the Jewish People has undergone a radical transformation.  Christianity has come to recognize that its links with the Jewish tradition are indispensable for its own self-understanding.  While not all points of tensions have been removed the relationship is now viewed through a fundamentally positive lens exactly opposite to the fundamentally negative lens that prevailed for centuries.  The gains of the last half century will be highlighted and the remaining challenges will be put on the table.
