Chen Bar-Itzhak received her PhD from Ben-Gurion University's Department of Hebrew Literature, after which she was a visiting scholar at the University of Oxford's Centre for Hebrew and Jewish Studies. Her prize-winning dissertation explores the city of Haifa in the Israeli cultural imagination from an interdisciplinary perspective, and develops a new model for the study of literary cities. Her published/forthcoming works address the complex relations between language, space, memory and ideology in Israeli literary and cultural representations, as well as contemporary theoretical issues in world literature studies. At Stanford she will be working on a new project about nostalgia for the British Mandate in contemporary Israeli culture. She is also the executive editor of Stanford's Dibur Literary Journal and an elected board member of the Association for Literary Urban Studies.
